• About Us

Redwoods Treewalk is a 700-metre long, eco-tourism walking experience in the heart of Rotorua’s Redwood Forest that consists of a series of 28 suspension bridges and 27 majestic Redwood trees that are more than 120-years-old. The height of the walkway ranges between 6 metres and 20 metres presents a stunning, elevated view of the forest below and the treetops above.

Our Values

Redwoods Treewalk has a clear vision to be an innovative, design led and sustainable business – economically, environmentally and socially.

As an eco-tourism business located in Rotorua’s iconic Redwoods Forest, the Treewalk has been entrusted by Manu Whenua and we unreservedly work as guardians of the land and forest we operate in.

Acting as guardians of the land and forest is a core value of Māori culture and is known as Kaitiakitanga. This is a concept of guardianship; for the sky, the sea, and the land and of a deep kinship between humans and the natural world – one that we embrace as a business and share with our guests.

Our Core Values

Safety – number one
Manaakitanga – hospitality, integrity, trust, sincerity and fairness for all our guests and Treewalk team
Kaitiakitanga – responsible for doing the right thing and guardianship of our forest assets

Manaakitanga – Hospitality

Manaakitanga (hospitality) is a core value at Redwoods Treewalk and we welcome guests as part of our whānau (family) at the Treewalk. Being hospitable, looking after and caring for our guests is a value that encompasses the world-class visitor experience we aim to provide you. We have the best health and safety measures in place at Redwoods Treewalk and are proud of our quality assurance methods. Safety is our absolute priority and is the foundation of all decision making. Annually, external audits of our business are conducted by local engineers, arborists and specialists in suspended bridge structures. These independent auditors monitor tree health and structural integrity. Additionally, we are evaluated annually by New Zealand tourism’s official quality assurance organisation, Qualmark. Through the external evaluations of our business we are confident in the structural safety of the Treewalk and supporting trees and in providing a uniquely unforgettable experience for all our guests.

Redwoods Treewalk is also committed to the Tiaki Promise initiative. The Tiaki Promise is a commitment to care for New Zealand, for now and for future generations. By holding true to the principals of the Tiaki Promise, we can continue to offer our hospitality for many years to come.

Kaitaikitanga – Guardianship

Sustainability, and protection of our most valuable natural resource is at the core of what we do at Redwoods Treewalk.

From the sustainable sourcing of materials, our waste and recycling policies, and our replanting programmes, we do our best to ensure that the forest will be able to be enjoyed and used for generations to come.

We actively seek to do better every day.

Our Environmental Legacy

With a strong focus on its responsibility as Kaitiaki of the forest, the need to leave an environmental legacy is at the heart of the Redwood Treewalk operation. This eco-tourism venture captures the peace, ambiance and spirit of the Redwoods Forest from a unique birds’ eye perspective, showcasing the natural beauty of the forest in an untouched way. The walkway has been carefully constructed through a series of slings to avoid damaging the Redwood trees or the existing natural environment

Redwoods Treewalk has strong connections with local iwi; the land it sits on is privately owned by iwi through CNI Iwi Holdings Ltd. We have worked hard to ensure the strong connection with iwi is reflected in everything we do, giving visitors the opportunity to explore and learn about the history of the land (whenua), the people (iwi) and the 120-year-old Redwoods Forest.

Social Responsibility

We value social responsibility and believe in actively participating and supporting the Rotorua community through the generosity and caring for others. Below are some of the local organisations and businesses we are proud to support:

Big Brothers Big Sisters Rotorua | Revolve Rotorua | Running for Hope | Rotorua Bike Festival | Rotorua Association of Triathlon and Multisport Inc. (RATS) | Sulphur City Steam Rollers | Special Olympics Rotorua | Rotorua Riding for the Disabled

Those moody forest mornings! Many more to come as winter approaches 😍🥶
On the 29 February we shone bright and orange for #rarediseaseday 🧡

It’s not rare to have a rare disorder. In Aotearoa, more than 300,000 people live with one of over 7,000 rare disorders - and more than half of those affected are children.

Living with a condition that not many other have or know about can feel isolating, so we shone brightly to show our support and aroha for the rare disease community 🧡🧡🧡 #glowupshowup #rarediseasemonth

  • The Redwood Forest is just stunning... The lights are just incredible and it is such a beautiful thing to be walking so high in the trees. We also went back the next day and walked around the forest - still gorgeous. Would definitely recommend.

  • The Redwoods Altitude tree walk is beyond amazing! It was the highlight of our tiki tour of the North Island, and if you’re a wee bit terrified of heights, it was life changing. We felt so safe while being challenged well beyond our comfort zones. The guides are great, very encouraging.

  • "perfection" This experience was a true 10/10 for us. The perspective and views it offers of the grove are spectacular and unique. The actual bridge crossings and zip-lining very quickly went from potential impediments to accentuating the experience. Our guides, Jordan and Nicole, were the absolute best. If you were on the fence, go for this one. It's incredibly clear that the altitude team is there to make sure your experience will be like ours -- spectacularly unforgettable.
